Tom Macedo

TOM MACEDO

Tom Macedo is not one of those traditional artists that one often discovers. Originally from Caico, northern Brazil, this fan of bright colors dreamed of fashion design and longed to create under the sizzling Brazilian sun. However, even though he painted passionately throughout his childhood, he did not pursue this journey any further.

Nevertheless, destiny decided otherwise. In 2004, the artist who had yet to profit from his innate talents, packed his bags and headed to a city where the sun befriends the cold of winter: Montreal. And there, in the midst of snowstorms, he found his mark. So vivid, intense and warm; his style is hard to resist. Of the events that helped the young artist find his way in life, Mr. Macedo makes sure to mention his years working as assistant to Frank Milo, the renowned painter. “His patience and professionalism helped forge the artist that I am today.” Now, with his own style, new tactics and knowledge, and a growing desire to create; Tom Macedo is a full-fledged painter. Finally! “It took me a while to find my own style.”

The wait was well worth it! When observing his paintings, one can't help but notice that the different colours, like fuchsia, canary and turquoise; and the restricted use of dark and thick stokes are similar to those of a Romero Britto. Although he uses quite the same palette as his fellow countryman, Tom Macedo remains unaffected by figurative art. “I let inspiration come to me and then I put in colors what it means to me.” His main inspirations are his homeland, memories of his worldly adventures, and the people who have had a great impact on his life. But even though he paints with his homeland in mind, one never senses nostalgia, sadness or regret when looking at his work. “I wish to spread positive thinking through my paintings; and happiness, lots of it!” It is hard to believe that with his maturity; and his idyllic, particular view; Tom Macedo is still a newcomer in the greater Montreal artistic circle, as well as worldwide! Throughout the years, this prolific painter has brought to life a considerable number of paintings which have already attracted the eye of art collectors. Just think of Une histoire de là-bas, Mon souvenir du jardin de chez-nous, and Ce vent qui frappe à ma porte; so many works with evocative and inspiring titles! Serene, warm-hearted and in love with life, Tom Macedo intends to continue on this creative path that allows him to pass on his passion to others. “I focus all of my energy towards my art!” And obviously, it's repaying him very well!
